city-wide wireless broadband security network in Cairo
Advanced video surveillance application connects police across major metropolitan area
CAIRO, EGYPT —April 20, 2006—Alkan Telecom, an independent solution and services provider, and a recognized regional systems integrator, today announced that it has been awarded a major civil defense network implementation contract in the Middle East. Alkan will establish its first network in Cairo using Redline’s AN-50e, the industry’s most robust and reliable, high-performance wireless backhaul and multipoint system.

Alkan Telecom has begun rolling out Redline’s equipment in urban centers throughout Cairo, enabling police and security agencies to transmit time and security-sensitive surveillance video, GIS and vehicle tracking broadband applications to and from their vehicles. Alkan expects to replicate this project in markets throughout Egypt.

Redline’s Advanced Wireless Broadband Products The AN-50e is part of Redline’s full suite of advanced wireless broadband products for backhaul and access applications. Redline's high speed wireless AN-50e Ethernet bridge operates in the license exempt 5.470 - 5.725 GHz and 5.725 - 5.825 GHz bands and is configured for point-to-point (PTP) operation, with point-to- multipoint (PMP) operation capabilities. Accommodating backhaul and access functions, the AN-50e is the industry's first true high performance, high capacity, multi-services OFDM platform. The AN-50e system delivers an over-the-air rate of up to 72 Mbps, equivalent to 49 Mbps at the Ethernet level. With a robust non line-of-sight (NLOS) capability, long IF cable support for tower and high rise installations, audible antenna alignment and diagnostic capabilities for Ethernet and wireless, the AN-50e addresses the most challenging deployment scenarios through simplified installation and support.
Redline’s WiMAX Leadership Redline is the first in the world to receive WiMAX Forum Certification™ for a complete WiMAX system. Redline’s certified WiMAX products enable both fixed and nomadic wireless broadband connections and include the RedMAX carrier-class Base Station (AN-100U) and RedMAX Outdoor Subscriber Unit (SU-O), which are based on the IEEE 802.16-2004 technology and incorporate the Intel® PRO/Wireless 5116 broadband interface.
