Redline's WiMAX roadmap drives success for network operators
RedPATH architecture roadmap delivers RedMAX™ solutions that fuel carriers' revenue growth and delivery of fixed, portable and mobile WiMAX services
TORONTO—May 22, 2006 – Redline Communications, a leading provider of standards-based broadband wireless equipment, today unveiled RedPATH, Redline’s product architecture roadmap that will drive success for WiMAX network operators. RedPATH provides a clear strategy for carriers to evolve their networks to deliver high-revenue-generating fixed, portable and mobile WiMAX services over the next 18 months.
“RedPATH gives our customers a distinct advantage in capturing market share with WiMAX,” said Majed Sifri, Chief Executive Officer, Redline Communications. “With the world’s most widely deployed WiMAX Forum Certified™ products, Redline is enabling carriers to establish a revenue stream with RedMAX today and to protect their investment as they grow their networks in step with the evolving WiMAX ecosystem.”
RedPATH is a three stage approach that guides Redline’s WiMAX product development from supporting today’s fixed and portable services, to enabling carriers to expand and enhance their services, to delivering on full mobility. With today’s announcement, Redline marks the completion of phase one and initiation of phase two of RedPATH.
“With RedPATH, Redline has established a clear WiMAX product and network evolution strategy that will help operators cut through some of the confusion that has resulted from the industry’s excitement about future applications,” said Caroline Gabriel, Research Director, Rethink Research. “The WiMAX industry will ultimately be driven by carriers’ ability to deliver services that subscribers want. Redline’s RedPATH ensures WiMAX solutions for high-performance broadband access which are available today, deliver the benefits of WiMAX Forum Certification, and will rapidly evolve to support portable devices such as laptops and PDAs, which is expected to be among the largest markets for WiMAX services.”
RedPATH Phase One: Delivering on the promise of WiMAX today
The first phase of RedPATH has placed Redline at the forefront of WiMAX products and deployments, enabling operators to seize a first to market advantage and generate revenue from RedMAX products today. During this phase, Redline introduced the RedMAX AN-100U base station and RedMAX Outdoor Subscriber Unit (SU-O), which comprise the first WiMAX Forum Certified™ system in the world. The RedMAX system is based on TDD1, which offers superior spectral efficiency and IP traffic management to FDD2. The RedMAX Management Suite (RMS) will soon be introduced, enabling an open architecture for third party integration and management and seamless incorporation with operators’ existing OSS for true carrier-class networks.
RedPATH Phase 2: Personal Broadband Everywhere
Redline is now executing phase two of RedPATH, delivering the features and components for a WiMAX architecture that will enhance fixed services, enable portable applications and support an open architecture. Redline‘s plug-and-play RedMAX Indoor Subscriber Unit (SU-I) will accelerate network and revenue growth, and will be compatible with 802.16-2005 products through a software upgrade. Next, Redline’s Distributed Antenna Systems architecture will enable operators to maximize service coverage and leverage their initial investment. The RedMAX architecture will be further enhanced with the addition of a µTCA chassis base station that will support devices for 802.16-2004, 802.16-2005 and future standards.
“At this stage of RedPATH, operators can deliver the high-revenue services that consumers want, including Voice over WiMAX, and support a variety of WiMAX devices for high-bandwidth fixed and portable applications, including portable laptop connectivity,” said Sifri.
RedPATH Phase 3: Mobilizing WiMAX Personal Broadband
Phase three of RedPATH will guide operators to deliver complete mobile WiMAX services by leveraging their existing RedMAX products and architecture. RedMAX will offer an open architecture, providing the utmost in interoperability and flexible network design, and integrate with Access Service Network (ASN) Gateways developed in partnership with a packet processing leader to support full WiMAX mobility within IP networks. In phase three, Redline will also incorporate advanced antenna designs including MIMO3 and AAS4, which will provide the ubiquitous broadband coverage required for a profitable mobile business model.
RedMAX - The Most Widely Deployed WiMAX Forum Certified™ Networks
Redline’s RedMAX products have been chosen by many carriers and other network operators for country- and city-wide commercial deployments and trials. Among the first to install RedMAX for a nation-wide network is T-Com’s Hrvatske Telekomunikacije d.d (T-HT) in Croatia, Crowley Data of Poland, and by Integrated Telecom Company Ltd. (ITC), a licensed data service provider in Saudi Arabia. ITC is deploying RedMAX as part of the (U.S.) $22.2 million first phase of its region-wide broadband network.
